Road trips to see family and friends for Thanksgiving can be lot of fun but sometimes the journey can take an unexpected turn. According to AAA, more than 45 million people will hit the road Thanksgiving weekend. The National Safety Council is estimating over 44,000 injuries and over 400 fatalities throughout the four day holiday period; being prepared for the unexpected can help when dealing with a car accident.
When you are traveling to visit family this weekend, take care by:
- Make sure you have full coverage on your vehicle and take a look at your policy limits. If you were in an accident and had to rely on that money, would you be able to live comfortably?
- Create an emergency bag that contains a flashlight with extra batteries, collapsible shovel, cones, flares and blankets. It should also include: ID cards, vehicle registration, health insurance cards, allergy information, and emergency contacts.
- Take pictures with your cell phone of all ID cards, vehicle registration, insurance cards etc. in case they are destroyed in your car.
Once everyone is safe, document the scene of the accident with photographs or cell phone video.
